About Me

Storytelling is in my DNA.

I fight stigma through stories. I have done some pretty cool things and survived some really awful things.

I believe in possibilities I've always liked to do what other people tell me was impossible impractical. Which is probably why my life story sounds as confusing as it does incredible.

It isn't super common to go from the role of a middle child in blue collar rural America to being: a self-taught freelance web designer, the first person in a family to travel overseas (on a scholarship to volunteer on an organic farm in Ireland), 20 years old and teaching English and math to Tibetan Buddhist Nuns in the Himalayas of India just 15 miles outside of Tibet, to getting a master's degree in archaeology at a university in England, to working at the Royal Botanic Gardens of Edinburgh and the University of Glasgow, to moving to Argentina without knowing Spanish, to adopting a puppy and getting married, to moving to the beach in Mexico.

Even less common to concurrently experience: living with major depressive disorder without treatment, being poor, surviving and escaping domestic violence, losing a parent suddenly, nearly dying in a fire that destroyed everything, falling into alcoholism and getting sober, being diagnosed with (complex) post traumatic stress disorder, and recovery in Buenos Aires.

Almost all before the age of 30.

Like I said, I believe in possibilities. I use these personal experiences to inform my work, it turns my pain into a source of strength for myself and others. I am dedicated to combatting victim blaming and helping people make it through today.

Informed, organized, engaging, perceptive and enthusiastic...

Her rapport with my students was remarkable. Kristance had my student's attention throughout her hour-long presentation, which is not an easy task especially with the 10th graders. She fielded questions with the appropriate candor, some of which may have been more personal than she would have prefered. Her reactions were always professional as well as charitable and goal-directed. Her enthusiasm for education was evident from the start.

Her work was invaluable to us...

Kristance is pretty much unforgettable. What stands out most is her great skill as an “idea person.” I hired her to a fairly mundane job – but her excitement about new possibilities and her dedication to seeing the school move forward in more imaginative directions made it instantly clear that I needed to tap her skills more effectively. Her work was invaluable to us, and it was a great privilege to know her.

Truly an interdisciplinarian...

What makes Ms. Harlow an exceptional is her ability to intelligently and informatively challenge conventional forms of thinking. She is truly an interdisciplinarian. Her ability to bring information from other fields and schools of thought to bear on materials makes her truly unique. She has the ability to be critical without being trite and needlessly argumentative.
